Hiking Websites
Hiking websites. I feel weird writing that phrase. Why? Computers weren't invented when I was a beginning hiker. The idea of hiking information at my fingertips still doesn't seem real. Don't get me wrong. I enjoy having access to hiking information from all over the world. In fact, visiting hiking websites has become a hobby, bordering on an obsession, with me. I spend hours reading about snowshoeing, backpacking, outdoor skills, hiking techniques, gear reviews.... and I've noticed an unevenness in quality and content in the websites which bill themselves for hikers. I have a core list of websites which I check on every few months, looking for updated content and solid information. I've categorized them according to level of hiking, location, or other groupings. And I'm itching to share them with you! So why not just make a huge long list here? Because then you'd have to wade through them, and that would be a waste of time. Instead, send me your question and I'll send you the links I feel would best answer your question. Please let me know if you're a beginner, intermediate, or experienced hiker. Also let me know if you're interested in a particular location or particular type of hiking (seasonal, length, etc.). All I ask in return, and I'm not even asking, I'm just suggesting, is that you let me know your opinion of the sites I recommended. That way the list reflects more than just my own personal bias, and will be more useful to the next hiker with a question. Plus, you can send me your recommendations, and I'll have even more great sites on the list! Here's the contact box for your question:
Hiking websites are a treasure trove of information, as long as they're targeted to your needs. Return home for more choices.
